Vaping to Quit Smoking: How Vaping Has Helped Smokers Kick the Habit During Lockdown

At first, glance, vaping to quit smoking may seem like an instance of choosing the lesser of two evils.

We can’t deny there is a ring of truth to this assessment. It’s certainly better to ditch the bad habit and not take up another one in the process. But, the only problem is that’s a tall order.

In COVID lockdown conditions, the temptation to smoke reaches fever-pitch. What else is there to do anyway (plenty of stuff, to be fair)?

Well, when you can’t quit, you can do the next best thing— find a substitute. A growing body of scientific studies suggests e-cigarettes represent a much healthier alternative.  They can serve as a tool for managing nicotine cravings and dumping cigarettes.

In the following sections, we’re going to explain why exactly that is the case.

Vaping vs. Smoking

Vaporizers allow users to inhale nicotine in a vapor rather than tobacco smoke.

What you’re consuming is an e-liquid, which contains other ingredients, such as vegetable glycerin and flavorings. So, does a form in which nicotine is inhaled really make such a difference?

The answer is yes. Vaping doesn’t involve tobacco and two menaces that reside in its smoke. We’re talking about the most health-damaging components of all, tar and carbon monoxide.

At the same time, e-cigarettes save you from other dangerous byproducts that exist in regular cigarettes. Believe it or not, there are over 7,000 of them in total.

Make no mistake—those byproducts have a perilous effect on every single organ in your body. Some of them are cancer-inducing chemicals.

Due to all these reasons, vape juice is considered almost 95% less harmful than cigarettes. And that’s not all.

Through vaping, you can get your dose of nicotine and avoid withdrawal symptoms. The nicotine itself indeed isn’t overly toxic. The real trouble lies in everything else we mentioned before.

Vaping as an Effective Stop Smoking Aid

Covid-19 pandemic has made life more complicated and stressful.

Many people turned to vices and sin goods for relief. We can’t really blame them. But, if you want to have a bad habit, why not pick one that is relatively harmless and helps you fight other bad habits?

One scientific paper harnessed data from over 8, 000 adults.

It found that cigarette smokers who start vaping are 77% more likely to stop smoking. That’s compared to those who don’t use e-cigarettes, of course.

Another finding is that people who vape every day have higher chances of leaving cigarettes behind. Occasional vaping improves chances, but not as much.  On top of that, vaping generally reduces the number of cigarettes smoked per day.

A different study even established that vaping is two times more effective in banishing smoking habits than traditional nicotine replacement therapies. These therapies, as you probably know, rely on tools like nicotine patches.

The facts and figures we’ve just highlighted are rather encouraging. Vaping might hold huge potential to improve public health and rescue numerous individuals from clutches of addiction.

Warning Signs

Alas, there are still some concerns we want to bring up.

Some experts fear that regular nicotine intake through vaping can increase the risk of smokers’ relapse. Namely, former smokers could begin smoking again upon feeling the taste of nicotine-infused vape in their mouths.

And improvements in e-cigarette technology aren’t helping the situation. The new generation of vape pens delivers higher concentrations of nicotine to the bloodstream.

Other studies offer conflicting evidence, but relapse is defiantly something to consider for sure.

Moving on, vaping isn’t completely risk-free. Your health doesn’t benefit from it, quite the contrary. We know that frequent vaping gives rise to various heart and respiratory issues.

For instance, there could be a link between vaping and smoking and a higher risk of a heart attack. The situation gets progressively worse when you mix the two.

The silver lining is that as we’ve indicated earlier, vaping tends to lower overall cigarette consumption. Hence, it mitigates the dire impact of harmful chemicals on the body and flushes carbon monoxide out of the bloodstream.

Lastly, vaping doesn’t decimate lung health in the same way cigarettes do. In fact, it allows the lungs to clean and repair themselves.

Baby Steps, Leaps, and Bounds

Vaping is a step in the right direction, but it doesn’t get you out of the nicotine prison. If you want to escape completely, there are still many steps on the journey.

Doctor and professional health monitoring, for example, can reduce the risk of relapse. The same goes for face-to-face support from services that combat smoking addiction.

Those who manage to stay away from both vaping and smoking still have the lowest risk of reverting back to old habits. That much is certain, although there is much else we still don’t know.

The good news is that incoming studies will continue to forward our knowledge and understanding. Another positive development is the increasing level of scrutiny e-cigarette companies are under. They are now subject to FDA health reviews and their products can be banned from the market.

Changes such as this one will make the vaping landscape safer for everyone.

Until then, have a talk with your doctor. Choose the best smoking cessation strategy together. Don’t vape because it’s cool and trendy.

Do it because it benefits your health and wellbeing during the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond.

Vaping to Quit Smoking: It Works

Vaping to quit smoking is no fad.

It’s a scientifically-backed method for quitting smoking, albeit a flawed one. You can steer clear of combustible poison and enjoy nicotine safely. And in terms of health, there is a big difference between vaping and smoking.

This isn’t to say that nicotine addiction is kept at bay. It still poses a burning issue that has to be addressed sooner or later so, you may want to combine vaping with other tactics and aids.

Small victories add up and help you get through these tumultuous times.

Vaping has greatly improved the quality of life I live. I also quit cold turkey almost two years ago and it all started with VaporDNA!! I bought my first Aegis mod from them and I haven’t looked back since. So to VaporDNA I give the biggest of thanks for giving me the tools to kick one of the nastiest habits I had. Vaping may not be exactly healthy for you but I can say this, I feel better, breath better, I’m more active and involved in my family’s lives and for me a big one… I don’t smell like gross cigarette smoke anymore. And for all the people saying negative things about vaping you obviously haven’t been addicted to smoking so you should try and focus all that negative energy on things you know something about!! Again, many thanks to VaporDNA for providing a site to culminate all things Vape. You are truly saving lives. Stay safe and blessed everyone!!!!!

Definitely! I quit cigarettes cold turkey November 2017. I enjoy my Lava Flow 3mg and experienced no withdrawals. I feel a thousand times better, and don’t cough or smell nasty.
