5 Reasons Why Vaping Is the Best Way to Quit Smoking
FEIPENG LI
Across the US, more than 16 million people suffer from an illness related to cigarettes. These include (but are not limited to) cancer, heart disease, COPD, and diabetes.
You don't need us to tell you that cigarettes are tiny little death traps, you have heard it everywhere you go. That's why you're trying to quit, right?
Living a cigarette-free life may seem like a far-fetched fever dream. You've tried every patch, gum, and lozenge on the market and they haven't seemed to make a difference. That's because vaping is the best way to quit smoking.
If you are skeptical that vaping will finally help you kick your smoking habit, this article is for you.
Sit back, relax, and we'll let the facts do the talking. Here are five reasons why vaping is your best bet.
1. Cold Turkey Is Unrealistic
Other nicotine-based non-smoking solutions are difficult to succeed with. Those who have tried them can back us up here. While success using one of the following methods isn't impossible, it can be so stinkin' hard.
Let's break down why this is.
A popular way that the media will tell you to quit smoking is to just say no. This is also often called the cold turkey method, or putting down your pack for good.
Yeah, sounds great, just one problem: saying yes is so much easier.
Quitting cold turkey also increases withdrawal symptoms like depression and insomnia. Studies show that only 3-10% of smokers who try to quit cold turkey stay sober. So again, it's not an impossible method, but an unrealistic one.
2. Other Methods Leave You Dissatisfied
Your brain is a very complex organ that is hard to fool. You don't only crave nicotine, your brain also craves the behavior of smoking. When you smoke, your brain relates the idea of lifting a cigarette to your mouth with addiction. We know it sounds weird, but nicotine patches take out the physical action and leave you wanting more.
We don't want you to waste your time by attempting to quit using these methods. Allow us to introduce you to vaping.
3. Studies Prove Vaping Works
People rave about the benefits of vaping, but it wasn't until recently that research supported these opinions. One specific study hit it out of the park. You can read all about it here for more in-depth information!
In a New England Journal of Medicine study, 900 individuals who wished to quit smoking were sorted into two groups. Group A was given access to nicotine replacement tools like patches, gums, and sprays. Group B received a refillable e-cigarette (vape) and a few bottles of e-liquid (vape juice).
Group B was encouraged to explore different juice options and experiment with nicotine levels. Each week, both groups met one on one with doctors to discuss their experience.
Results
Group B unanimously said that they felt fewer withdrawal symptoms, like mood swings and depression, than Group A felt. Those using e-cigarettes were left much more satisfied than those without.
At the end of the one-year study, 40% of Group B were still using their vapes, while a mere 4% of Group A still used their substitutes. Even more shocking was how many people managed to kick smoking altogether. For Group B, 80% of individuals had quit, while only 9% of Group A quit.
Even the vapers who didn't completely quit saw a significant decrease in their cigarette usage.
These results speak for themselves. Of course, switching to e-cigarette dependence could be a negative thing if the user continues to use them for years on end. But if your goal is to quit cigarettes, vaping is the best way to do so.
4. Vaping Satisfies Where Other Methods Fail
We published an article that discusses how smokers have kicked their bad habit during 2020 by switching to vapes, and you can read that here!
Vaping satisfies your brain's desire to inhale smoke and taste nicotine. Plus, secondhand vapor is not as dangerous as secondhand smoke. Switching to e-cigarettes benefits everyone!
It also is much easier on your wallet. After you buy your initial rechargeable e-cigarette, vape juice refills only cost a few bucks and can last for quite a while.
There are still many misconceptions about vaping on the internet, but we're here to set things straight.
5. A Safer and Healthier Alternative
Many vape juices still contain nicotine, so by switching to e-cigarettes you aren't ditching that completely. But, vaping eliminates the harsh chemicals inside cigarettes that can lead to disease and death.
These chemicals include high levels of ammonia, cyanide, arsenic, formaldehyde, and benzene. Any of those sound familiar? These chemicals are also found in rat poison, gasoline, hair dye, lighter fluid, rubber cement, and household cleaners.
There are over 7,000 different chemicals inside each cigarette.
Vaping saves you from these poisons and always includes the same four ingredients: nicotine, flavoring, vegetable glycerin (VG), and propylene glycol (PG). VG and PG sound complicated, so let's break them down.
VG is a sweet-tasting liquid used in many different foods and cosmetics to improve hydration. It is FDA-approved and non-toxic, and even safe for vegetarians! Vape juices include this to thicken up vapor.
PG is also used in many topical skin-care products. Vape juices include PG to help enhance flavor and smooth smoke.
Sure, nicotine is still not great for your system. But, vaping eliminates the harmful chemicals that infect your system when you smoke a cigarette.
Vaping Is the Best Way to Quit Smoking
By switching to an e-cigarette or vape, you are saving your body for years of inhaling toxic chemicals. Not only do vapes meet your craving for nicotine, but you are much more likely to experience a successful and smooth transition to a smoke-free lifestyle without the rough symptoms of withdrawal.
