What is CBD?
Cannabidiol, often referred to more colloquially as CBD, is a derivative of the cannabis plant, so it can be found in both hemp and marijuana. Don’t worry, though, CBD is a non-psychoactive compound so CBD does not get you high. The psychoactive component of cannabis is called THC, and while it does have some of its own medicinal properties, it’s an intoxicating experience that not everybody wants or needs.
CBD VS THC
A common misconception is that CBD comes from the marijuana plant. While you can get CBD from a marijuana plant, it is most often extracted from the hemp plant (a cousin of the marijuana plant).
Keep in mind, any CBD made from the marijuana plant is illegal because that species of plant is illegal. Any CBD derived from hemp is legal in the 47 states who have legalized it.
The biggest difference between CBD and THC is how they react with the human endocannabinoid system. While CBD will give you some of the amazing benefits associated with using marijuana, it will not give you the buzzed feeling!
Where does CBD come from?
CBD is a compound commonly found in cannabis plants, but it does not create any of the psychotropic effects that people typically associate with cannabis. Everything you’ll find in the VaporDNA CBD Store is going to be derived from hemp, which is the male version of the plant that generates negligible amounts of THC, essentially eliminating any psychoactivity.
How does CBD work? How can I benefit from it?
CBD supports and stimulates your endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is a series of receptors all throughout the human body that require cannabinoids to achieve balance. This system affects everything from your mood to how well you’ll be able to fight off certain viruses.
Studies have shown that CBD can shrink cancer cells and is often used by people that commonly experience seizures, but it can also help with relatively minor problems such as muscle pain, headaches, or anxiety. It’s anti-inflammatory properties make CBD perfect for muscle soreness, and the anti-anxiety effects can help with relaxation, among many other positive effects.
Yes… but also no. What’s illegal is marijuana, the female version of the plant that creates an abundance of both THC and CBD when cultivated correctly. These are the plants that are legal in states where cannabis is legal recreationally, as they can serve both recreational and medical purposes.
When we’re talking about CBD, however, we’re talking about a compound that can also be found in hemp, the male version of cannabis that creates negligible levels of THC(0.3%), eliminating the “high” that people might be avoiding. Hemp-derived CBD is legal in all 50 states in the US, Canada, and many European countries among other places around the globe.
How much is one dose of CBD?
The dosage will vary depending on the severity of the ailment. It’s often recommended to start with something between five and ten milligrams for your first dose of CBD. If you’re using it for pain, try something on the higher end of that scale at first, as you want to make sure it takes care of the problem to avoid discomfort. For issues such as anxiety, try something lighter but do it more often to keep the CBD working in your system all day if that’s what you need.
What is the best way to intake CBD?
CBD products come in a variety of options and a wide range of potencies. Some CBD products glide onto the top of the skin like a lotion or salve for topical relief. Some people take CBD by mouth and there are even smokeable green buds that are CBD only strains! You can choose whatever make more sense for you to intergate CBD benefits into your daily life.
